Artist Dawn Darfus:

“I started painting watercolors when I was sixteen, using dime-store paints and paper, but life led me in other  directions, and so I did not pick up a paint brush again until I was forty. A few of those early pieces actually survived--they remind me of a time when I was able to create images without the benefit of training or prejudice. I find now that when I am moved to paint, I am seeking that same fleeting, innocent, simple view of the world that I held as a very young woman. The process for me now, with all of its challenges, brings a deep, inner peace, which is hopefully reflected in the work.”

Dawn Darfus has studied with California watercolorist Frank Howard for several years, and has attended numerous workshops in Louisiana, Vermont, California, and in New York City at the J.P. Morgan Library and The New School. She is a member of the Hoover Watercolor Society of Shreveport, Louisiana and a 2004 & 2005 spring show participant. Ms. Darfus also owns The Parsonage Bed and Breakfast in Natchitoches, Louisiana, splitting her time between Los Angeles and the south. Her handmade cards and prints are featured in local gift shops and on Green Market crafts days, held monthly on the banks of the Cane River in Natchitoches.
